I watched Marry Poppins about 18 years ago and until this day i sometimes sing "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious".
Turns out the word "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" [soo-per-kal-uh-fraj-uh-lis-tik-ek-spee-al-i-doh-shuhs] is not only the longest english word, but actually means something :P
According to Richard Ledered the author of the book Crazy English roots of the words have been defined as:
super- "above," cali- "beauty," fragilistic- "delicate," expiali- "to atone," and docious- "educable," with the sum of these parts signifying roughly "Atoning for educatability through delicate beauty."
This explication of its connotations suits the fictional character of Mary Poppins, in that she presents herself as both superlatively beautiful and also supremely intelligent and capable of great achievements.
